Hello friends! I’m getting ready for a whirlwind visit to Wonderwool Wales this Sunday (I’ve been making my show plan already!) but wanted to pop in and let you know about my latest pattern release, Denim Sky.
Introducing Denim Sky – in hues the colour of your favourite jeans
Denim Sky was originally released as an exclusive with The Loopy Ewe’s Giftables Club and now that the rights have reverted back to me I’m able to offer it to everyone! Releasing a new pattern always makes me happy. I feel a little springier in my step than usual – maybe because a new pattern and a yarn show on the horizon is the perfect opportunity to play? I’m sure I’ve said it before but one of the most rewarding things as a designer is seeing my patterns go off into the world to be knit by so many of you. Knitalongs (KALs) always get me incredibly excited – especially when WIP and FO photos are posted!
February has been fantastic on the KAL front so far. Finishes have been pouring in from the Maltings KAL for the upcoming Unravel show. It’s nice to know it will be easy to spot people at the show with their Maltings cowls! Continue reading →
It has been incredibly exciting this last week seeing all of the Maltings cowls slowly starting to take shape in the Unravel KAL on Ravelry. As wonderful as it is to see one of my designs go off into the world and be knit and loved, I’ve been completely thrilled by the sharing of yarn porn that has happened on that thread! There was some serious #yarnstashlove happening as people were diving into their stash and emerging with gorgeous skeins.
I was so inspired seeing everyone else’s Maltings that I had to start knitting one that can be just for me and not a design sample!
What I really love and appreciate so much about this KAL though, are how thoughtful people have been with their yarn choices. Most have been making the decision to use yarn that is local to them, or even finding precious souvenirs from Unravel or other yarn shows past. Even knitters joining in from far away have picked up the theme and chosen yarns that are local to where they are. I’m happy that so many of you have taken the opportunity to re-discover some long-lost loves in your own stash.
Maltings is a gorgeously textured cowl inspired by barley grains. Shaped to fit, it is narrower at the top and gently flares out to sit perfectly on the shoulders.
I wanted to create something I’d love to wear to a show – pretty but practical. Cowls keep us warm on a cold morning, stay neatly out of the way when we’re petting yarn, and can be folded up into a pocket as the day warms up. Perfect.
I do love to collaborate with others in my work, whether that is with yarnies, bloggers, stores, other designers or other wonderful knitterly people. To start this year in style, I have been working with the lovely team at Unravel to cook up something special for this, my favourite, yarn show.
I’m thrilled to give you this early sneak peek of a special knitalong, commissioned by Unravel. It starts next Thursday, 28th January, and runs until the show closes on Sunday 21st February. The pattern will be free to download while the knitalong runs – keep your eyes peeled on the 28th! Continue reading →
It’s unfathomable to me that this post finds us at the end of October already. It feels like I’ve been head down on the book for so long that it’s almost a surprise that autumn is well and truly here now that I’ve poked my head back up and resurfaced!
One of the things that has kept me busy this month has been knitting my own Yarn Tamer with the yarnlings that I bought on the Eden Cottage Yarns stand at Yarndale. I’m quite in love with how it’s turned out, but am AMAZED by the wonderful versions I’ve seen as the Yarn Tamer KAL wraps up on the Inspiration Knits Ravelry board. If you haven’t had a chance to see them yet, go take a look. The colour combinations are so beautiful…

As the Yarn Tamer KAL is wrapping up, we’ve already been looking ahead to having a longer KAL for November/December. What better way to welcome winter than with some cosy cables? (Apologies for the alliteration but I’m just so excited about this KAL!) Continue reading →
Hello! Hello! Things have slowly but surely getting back to normal here and it seems like the franking machine and I may have made friends at last. The next batch of orders of Knit Play Colour went to the post office today so they should be with you soon!
Anna is ready to welcome you at Wild & Woolly!
If you’ve been waiting for the chance to get your copy of the book from a yarn shop local to you, or to see the samples in person then I’ve got another chance for you to do so. I’m very happy to announce that Anna from Wild & Woolly will not only be carrying Knit Play Colour but hosting a launch party for it as well. And the party is this Saturday, 10th October! Today is the first in what will be a regular feature on the Inspiration Knits blog: yarn reviews. I am delighted to welcome our APlayfulDay, our first guest reviewer:
I’m thrilled to be the first guest to share my thoughts on some of the yarns that Louise features in her designs. When Louise and I first discussed the idea of yarn reviews and looked at the many lush and varied yarns she’s worked with, she suggested I take the lead with Fyberspates as I’m lucky enough to have worked with my fair share. First up on this list is Vivacious 4ply and one of my favourites in the Fyberspates range. Continue reading →
