Stars in a Denim Sky

Hello friends! I’m getting ready for a whirlwind visit to Wonderwool Wales this Sunday (I’ve been making my show plan already!) but wanted to pop in and let you know about my latest pattern release, Denim Sky.

Introducing Denim Sky – in hues the colour of your favourite jeans

Denim Sky was originally released as an exclusive with The Loopy Ewe’s Giftables Club and now that the rights have reverted back to me I’m able to offer it to everyone! Releasing a new pattern always makes me happy. I feel a little springier in my step than usual – maybe because a new pattern and a yarn show on the horizon is the perfect opportunity to play?

Denim Sky is a lightweight cowl with simple eyelets and a playful gradient

With springtime finally here, Denim Sky is the perfect lightweight cowl. It’s knit in a fingering/4ply weight with lots of simple eyelets to keep things light and fresh. I’ve designed it to be your new favourite: that piece you just throw on with jeans and a crisp, white shirt and head out for brunch, shopping or running errands (all while looking chic and effortless)!

The real star of Denim Sky though, has to be the yarn. The pattern calls for a pack of 5 x 25g mini skeins in a gradient. The original was knit using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock Solid in a gradient. Unfortunately these are not available in the UK but the SweetGeorgia Party of Five packs in Tough Love Sock make a nice alternative.

A new scrumptious long version of Denim Sky wraps up snuggly

But you know me – I can never leave well enough alone when the opportunity presents itself to come up with a new sample! And Denim Sky is a fantastic opportunity to play with colour and mix and match from leftovers in your stash! My new obsession is the long version of the cowl that we created with some Whimzy Sokkuso-O Minis and a single skein in a main colour. Just think of the fun you can have colour-wise if you decide not to go with a gradient? Or, choose a gradient and then go with something unexpected for your main colour instead of standard neutral.

This is dangerous territory for me now, going to a yarn show so soon after a pattern release – I’m sure to see ideas for new combinations everywhere!

Why not download the pattern and join us for the KAL we’ll be hosting in the Inspiration Knits group on Ravelry in May and June? We’ll be knitting on Denim Sky, as well as Flight of Colour from the Knit Play Colour book. Choose one, or show off your knitting speed by doing two! Both projects are great for this time of year, and brilliant stashbusters too. See you there?
