It was great to be able to share the samples from Whimzy that we’ll be bringing to Unravel this month. Another yarn label to expect on our stand is British dyer, Juno Fibre Arts. We’ve managed to secure some more exclusives for you too as we know how much people just love to get their hands on something unique at fibre events!
So let’s dive in shall we?First I want to introduce you to Juno Fibre Arts in case you’ve never come across this talented yarn dyer before. Juno Fibre Arts is created by Asti, in her farmland home in rural Devon. It’s a truly British experience as a result and I just love the product descriptions! Just look at this description of Alice Sock, one of the yarns we’re hosting:
Alice is the middle sister of our popular Alice range, combining 70% Baby Suri Alpaca, 20% Silk and 10% Cashmere that results in a beautiful halo and delicate drape. This lustrous base has a soft hand that is a delight to work with and has a warmth and comfort that only such soft fibres can provide. Suitable for special knits such as shawls and fine garments that cheer up a rainy day on the farm, this 4 ply yarn is available in 437 yards (400m) per 100g.
Isn’t that tempting? So full of character, and you know what? That’s exactly what this yarn has: character!
We have some stunning colours of Juno’s Alice Sock base. I really love Alice Sock. It’s creates the most perfect lightweight fabric, which makes it great for Spring/Summer knits. The halo created by the Baby Alpaca and the luxury of Cashmere just makes my heart sing. This is some seriously special yarn.
This Stay Awhile sample worked up in Alice is Luxurious with a capital L. It’s the perfect day to evening, or, frankly, just evening, accessory. This is a shawl that needs to be shown off at special occasions: weddings, parties, summer soirees. It’s begging to be beaded to add extra drape to the light fabric. The colourways shown are Oyster and Touchwood, two of the colours we’ve got on the stand. This is a grown up yarn for a grown up pattern.
Stay Awhile is the completely reversible shawl with a curious construction. It’s easy to wear and easy to make. It’s perfect for when you’re going to Stay Awhile and need more than a little Knit Night project. This beautiful design is ideal for showing off two hand-dyed yarns in gorgeous stripes and the sample above really demonstrates that. You can go to town on your colour choice; the simply elegant pattern will show it off well.
The drape from Alice is just incredible and worked perfectly in two other samples we’re bringing to the show: Knit Night and Song of the Sea. The Knit Night above is worked up in a really rich red colourway named, ‘Velvet’. I blocked it aggressively and turned it into a light shawlette for the Summer which proves once again the versatility of the pattern and Asti’s yarn. The Song of the Sea is in the ‘Sage’ colourway and welcomes in Spring doesn’t it? We could all do with some light colours after such a grey long winter. If you want to see some more shots and details about these, Asti has just published a lovely post about our collaboration.
I mentioned an exclusive though didn’t I? Well here’s a real treat for you. We’re bringing Cassie, Juno’s delicious Merino Cashmere Nylon blend that is soft on the outside and tough on the inside. This fingering weight yarn has a glossy sheen and a perfect stitch definition that makes it ideal for working up a regular size Foolproof.
Foolproof is the cowl with no casting on & no binding off. It’s made in rows but ends up all in one piece. There’s no knitting in the round, no sewing, no grafting, no provisional cast-on, no picking up stitches. It’s an intriguing construction; a real mystery.
This is a flexible pattern. You can go for the “Free Spirits” option or there is a fully designed “Inspiration Stripe” in which you just follow the “clues”. Cassie provides the perfect yarn to try your hand at this knitting mystery. We’ve got a selection of juicy colours that can be combined perfectly to help you work up your own version and play with the stripes. We’ve got Oyster and Raisin…..
…… or Ink Blot and Campion. Which will you choose?
Stay tuned for more exclusives on the blog soon as we’ll be sharing our third yarn collaboration and even more sample previews. It’s all looking very exciting indeed!
