I know a cowl mystery knit-along is rare. This is rarer; it has no casting on and no binding off.
It’s made in rows but ends up all in one piece. There’s no knitting in the round, no sewing, no grafting, no provisional cast-on, no picking up stitches. Promise.
You can make it to your custom size without having to make a tension square. No kidding.
No purling, no knitting. Oh, wait, just joking about that last bit. There is knitting – it’s in garter stitch – with funky stripes and some easy intermediate increasing and decreasing required. It’s an intriguing construction; a real mystery.
Mystery Knitalong sign-up opens now (April 1st). You’ll get an introduction pdf to download immediately, which contains pattern introduction, materials & tips – to help you prepare.
There will be 4 clues, issued one per week. The first clue will be sent out on Friday 19 April.
The last clue will be sent on Friday 10th May. The MKAL will close on Tuesday 21 May, when I will reveal the sample photographs & publish the complete pattern. To increase the fun, there will be a prize draw open everyone who has posted a Foolproof MKAL project on Ravelry within the time! For an extra incentive, there will be extra prizes drawn for those who have finished.
The MKAL will run in my Inspiration Knits group on Ravelry. To keep the MKAL a mystery while you knit, the photos have been removed from the pattern. So, if you need pictures to help you understand the pattern instructions (or to help you feel confident that you’ve finished each clue correctly) you can find them on “spoiler” threads in the group.
This is a pattern with a lot of options. I know not every knitter wants to decide everything, especially when it’s already an MKAL, right? So firstly there is a fully designed “Inspiration Stripe” option in two sizes – just follow the clues. You can work this option in Fyberspates Scrumptious or Fyberspates Faery Wings. They’re both such beautiful yarns!
Feeling brave? To increase the mystery, “Free spirits” can choose your own size, yarn and stripes. Guidance is given on how different sizes of cowls will work & on total yarn quantities for yarns from fingering to super-bulky.
All the details you need to help you choose which option to knit is in the Introduction pdf when you sign-up – and if you need more details now, you’ll find it in the Foolproof pattern page on Ravelry.
Quick! There’s 20% off all my cowls in my pattern collection until the end of April 2nd 2013 BST – including this new Foolproof MKAL pattern. Use code FOOLING at the checkout on Ravelry. Yes, all-cowl e-books are included too!
